kernel panic fatal exception in interrupt ubuntu 26 linux 7.0.0-15

After upgrading from Ubuntu 25. to Ubuntu 26.04 LTS, randomly when starting Thunderbird the screen freezes and says "kernel panic fatal exception in interrupt" After restart it continues to work, but randomly crashes again?

I had a similar problem after upgrading to Ubuntu 26.04, which crucially includes a major version bump for the kernel (6.x to 7.x).

So I don't think this has anything to do with Thunderbird, instead I think it could be some kind of kernel x GPU issue.

My recommendation would be to fall back to your previous stable kernel (in my case this was 6.17.0-35-generic but possibly an earlier 7.x would also work).
