present perfect vs past simple

present perfect vs past simple

"We've been best friends" vs "We were best friends".

Are both sentences correct ? What is the difference using first or second ?

Maybe, the first means that we were best friends in the past and we are best friends also now.... the second we aren't best friends anymore.

Comment: It's not quite that simple. You could say "we were best friends for five years," and that means you aren't best friends any more. Or you could say "we've been best friends for five years," and that means you still are. But "we were best friends" doesn't necessarily imply anything about whether you still are, and neither does "we've been best friends."
