Renewing US visitor visas

Renewing US visitor visas

My family and I are New Zealand citizens who have been living in Mexico for 10 years. Because we're close to the US border, we cross fairly regularly for shopping, appointments and travel, etc.

We currently have B1/B2 visas that expire in May 2027. There are five of us - four adults and one child. When these visas were issued almost 10 years ago, two of the applicants were children (around 14 and 11 at the time) but are now adults. In 2017 when we first applied, there were six of us - one of our kids has since moved away.

We're trying to work out the best time to start the process for getting new visas so there's no gap in our ability to travel to the US.

Is there any reason to apply now (or to not apply now), 11 months before expiry, rather than waiting until closer to the expiration date, particularly if things like interview waivers, renewals, or similar processes might be affected?

Comment: Isn't the younger child now approaching 21 years old? Is it harder leave a gap and reapply, or to renew?
